About the virtual networkAbout the Virtual Network

Ok, so here's how it works ...you go to The Lab and complete parts one thru three. When you are done, you'll have a foundational knowledge of VMWare, virtual machines, and virtual networks.

Moreover you'll have a fully functional virtual network, complete with a firewall, a Windows server, A Linux server, an XP Pro workstation and a Linux workstation. Freakin' sweet!! The cool part is you don't have to buy any additional hardware, 'cause the whole tomato exists right there on a single computer.

Many, but not all, of the "How To's" are built on the lab's configuration although you are free to adapt, configure and tweak the network as you see fit.

What You'll need to build the network

The computer my virtual network was built upon is an HP Pavilion dv6700 laptop, with an AMD dual core Turion processor @ 2Ghz, 3GB of RAM, running Windows Vista. This is my host machine. Virtual machines are referred to as guest machines.
